Doctors, gyms and many apps want your weight in kilograms, but your scales may show stone and pounds. Here's how to switch.
The two steps
- Turn the pounds into part of a stone. Divide the pounds by 14, then add the answer to the stone.
- Multiply by 6.35. The result is your weight in kilograms.
Worked example: 11 st 4 lb
4 ÷ 14 = 0.29, so the weight is 11.29 stone. Then 11.29 × 6.35 = 71.7 kg.
Worked example: 9 st 10 lb
10 ÷ 14 = 0.71, so the weight is 9.71 stone. Then 9.71 × 6.35 = 61.7 kg.
Another way: go through pounds
Multiply the stone by 14 and add the pounds to get a total in pounds. Then divide by 2.2. For 12 st 6 lb: 12 × 14 + 6 = 174 lb, and 174 ÷ 2.2 = 79.1 kg. The exact answer is 78.9 kg, because 2.2 is slightly rounded.
